Civil Air Patrol

The Civil Air Patrol is the official Auxiliary of the United States Air Force. The Lookout Mountain Squadron is the local unit serving Spearfish, Belle Fourche, Deadwood, Lead, Sturgis, Whitewood, Newcastle and Sundance. We have a senior program for ages 18 and up which provides training in emergency services, leadership and individual career tracks.

Fees: $37 annually
Meetings: 4th Thursday each month, 7 pm
at the airport.

Northern Hills Training Center –– Recreation & Leisure Program

NHTC is a private, nonprofit corporation established in 1976 to provide residential and work
options for adults who have developmental disabilities. NHTC provides services to adults (consumers) with disabilities to enhance their lives and foster independence with the ultimate goals of competitive employment, independent living and community interaction.

All services are implemented in a positive, non-punitive manner, always encouraging the consumers to strive for their ultimate potentials in all aspects of their lives.

Quilters Guild

The Northern Hills Quilters Guild meets each Friday 10 am - 3 pm and on the third Friday of every month at the Senior Center. All levels of quilters are welcome.

Hershey’s Track & Field
Children racing

Hershey’s Track & Field Program was created to promote youth physical fitness and provide fun learning experiences for children 9 to 14 years old.

It’s the largest youth sports program of its kind in the United States and Canada.

At the Hershey’s Track & Field Games, no matter how fast they run, how long they jump or how far they throw, every child is treated like a winner.

Kids Club Kids

KCK is a non-profit founded by parents to meet the need of after school care for children.
KCK has been in operation for 14 years. The program runs year ‘round. Enrollment is limited.
There is a $10 registration fee plus an hourly rate. There is a minimum monthly fee. Summer rates are weekly rates based on full or parttime attendance.

YouthWise
Teenage girl

YouthWise is an accredited schoolbased prevention program providing services to students in Spearfish and
Lead-Deadwood. The mission of YouthWise is to provide educational services to the youth of the Northern Black Hills on healthy lifestyle choices with an emphasis on alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention. YouthWise offers students of the Spearfish school system opportunities to participate in prevention programming like IMPROV, TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use), Diversity Club, After School Program, speakers, health fairs and diversion services.

Camping, hiking and community service are part of the scouting activities. About 40 boys are active in Boy Scouts.

4-H Cooperative Extension

4-H helps young people ages 8 to 18 become productive, self directing and contributing citizens in our communities. The educational goals and objectives will provide your youth the opportunity to learn and practice life skills such as problem solving, managing self and other resources, commitment to others and working with others.

Girl Scouts

Girls ages 5 to 17 discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together; build courage and strength; and enjoy enriching Activities such as field trips, sports and community service projects. Develop values, relate to others and contribute to society.

Sunbeams or Girl Guards

Sunbeams (ages 6 to 11) and Girl Guards (ages 12 to 18) are Christian character building programs open to girls who are in 1st through 5th grades (Sunbeams) and 6th through 12th grades (Girl Guards). The programs focus on helping girls learn about themselves and their world. They are designed to help guide girls toward spiritual, physical and social well being and help them understand their potential as individuals. This is done through programs centered around education, fellowship, service and worship by working on badges and awards that focus on these areas and through educational field trips and camping experiences.
