The Spearfish Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department has five (5) full-time employees and twenty-one (21) seasonal employees working in park maintenance, campground, sports fields, and cemetery operations.
The Spearfish Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department maintains a total of 130 acres of parkland encompassing 26 developed parks, “pocket” parks, and sports field areas. In addition the Department oversees the 756 acre mountain park land of Lookout Mountain Park, the Spearfish City Campground, and the Rose Hill Cemetery for a total of 930 acres of park property. The Department also maintains approximately 5.3 miles of Recreation Path and a 9600 sq.ft. Skate Park.
Within the developed areas, staff maintains a total of 15 restroom facilities, two shower facility, 2 public display fountains, 23 irrigation systems, 12 picnic shelter facilities, and 2 shop facilities.
